A "morphed" photo is one where someone has digitally edited your face or body onto another image — often to embarrass, threaten, or extort you. Deepfakes work the same way with AI. Either way, this is a criminal offence under Indian law, not just something platforms deal with informally. You have real options here, not just a "report" button.
1. Save evidence properly, before it can disappear
Don't just crop or save the image on its own. Take a full screenshot that shows the account name, the caption, the URL or link, and the date and time. If it was sent to you directly, save the entire conversation, not just the image. This is what turns "someone did this to me" into something a platform or the police can actually act on.
2. Report it on the platform directly
Instagram, Facebook, and most major platforms have a reporting flow specifically for impersonation or fake/manipulated images — separate from a general "I don't like this" report. Going through that specific flow, rather than a generic one, tends to get content reviewed and removed faster.
3. Use StopNCII.org if the image is intimate or sexual
StopNCII.org is a free tool built specifically for this. It creates a digital fingerprint (a "hash") of the image on your own device — the image itself is never uploaded or seen by anyone. Participating platforms then use that fingerprint to automatically detect and block the image if anyone tries to post it, even if it hasn't been posted yet.
4. File a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Portal
At cybercrime.gov.in, choose "Report Women/Child Related Crime" for this category. Importantly, this category can be filed without creating an account — so you can stay anonymous if that matters to you. Our full step-by-step guide to the portal walks through exactly what the form asks for.
5. You don't have to do this alone
Reading legal steps while you're upset is genuinely hard. If it would help, R.A.K.S.H.A can walk through what happened with you and guide you step-by-step through filing it yourself — you can stay anonymous with us too.
