Someone morphed or faked my photos — what do I do? +

A "morphed" photo is one where someone has digitally edited your face or body onto another image, often to embarrass, threaten, or extort you. This is a criminal offence in India, not just a platform policy violation — so you have real legal options, not just a "report" button.

1. Save evidence properly

Don't just crop the image. Take a full screenshot that shows the account name, the caption, the URL/link, and the date and time. Save the original message or post if it was sent to you directly. This is what makes a complaint provable later.

2. Report it on the platform directly

Instagram, Facebook, and most platforms have a specific reporting flow for "impersonation" or fake/manipulated images, separate from a general report. This can get the content taken down fastest.

3. Use StopNCII.org for intimate images

If the morphed image is intimate or sexual, StopNCII.org lets you create a digital fingerprint (hash) of the image on your own device — the image itself never leaves your phone — which participating platforms then use to detect and block it automatically. It works even for images that haven't been posted yet.

4. File a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Portal

At cybercrime.gov.in, choose "Report Women/Child Related Crime" for this category — it can be filed without creating an account, so you can stay anonymous if you choose to.

This is exactly the kind of complaint R.A.K.S.H.A helps with — and we'll guide you through filing it, step by step.
My Instagram or Facebook account got hacked — what now? +

1. Try the platform's account recovery first

Use "Forgot password" from the login screen immediately. If that works, you're back in — skip to step 4.

2. If the hacker changed your email or phone number

Regular password reset won't work anymore. Instagram and Facebook both have a separate "my account was hacked" recovery form, built for exactly this — it asks you to verify your identity another way (like a photo ID or a previous password you remember) instead of the email/phone the hacker now controls.

3. Warn people you know

Hacked accounts are often used to message friends and family asking for money or clicking suspicious links. A quick heads-up on another platform can stop someone else from being scammed in your name.

4. Once you're back in

  • Turn on two-factor authentication
  • Check "active sessions" or "login activity" and log out any device you don't recognise
  • Review connected/third-party apps and remove anything unfamiliar
  • Change your password to something you haven't used elsewhere
If the hacker used your account to scam someone, post harmful content, or you couldn't recover it at all, that's worth reporting on cybercrime.gov.in too — .
Filing a complaint on the Cyber Crime Portal, step by step +

The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (cybercrime.gov.in) is run by the Ministry of Home Affairs and is the official place to report cyber offences anywhere in India — you don't need to visit a police station first.

1. Choose the right category

"Report Women/Child Related Crime" covers harassment, stalking, morphed images, and abuse — and importantly, it can be filed without logging in, so you can stay anonymous. "Report Other Cyber Crime" (hacking, financial fraud, etc.) requires OTP login since it's tied to your identity for follow-up.

2. Fill the four-part form

  1. Incident details — what happened, when, and where online
  2. Suspect details — anything you know about who did it, if applicable
  3. Complainant details — your information (skippable for the anonymous category)
  4. Evidence upload — screenshots, links, messages

3. Preview, submit, and save your acknowledgment number

You'll get an acknowledgment number by SMS or on-screen. Save it somewhere safe — it's your only proof the complaint was filed, and you'll need it to check status later.

For financial fraud specifically, call 1930 within 24 hours — banks can freeze the receiving account fast, and recovery odds drop sharply after that window.
